The final session of the Lyrics Lab will be at 4:30 pm on the 25th of June in American Corner Debrecen (Méliusz Library, 19/D Bem Square).
The completed song translations will be performed live, with the help of professional musicians, as part of American Corner Debrecen’s Independence Day celebration starting at 4 pm on the 4th of July, and the best translations will be published in a printed booklet.
Lyrics Lab is an interactive and creative workshop for translating song lyrics into singable melodies. Led by Dr. István Pinczés, award-winning director, translator, and lyricist, Lyrics Lab dives into the heart of American music through the power of language. From Bob Dylan’s poetic storytelling and Elvis’s timeless charisma to the raw energy of The Doors and Steppenwolf.
Through discussion and hands-on exercises, the participants will transform classic American lyrics into natural, rhythmic Hungarian versions, capturing both meaning and melody. Whether you’re a language enthusiast, a music lover, or just curious about creative translation, this biweekly workshop offers a fun and artistic way to engage with both English and Hungarian.
