Erasmus Teaház, Mobility Fair, and English-language Mobility Café promote the Erasmus+ program and mobility at the #ErasmusDays events of the University of Debrecen (UD). In the series of programs starting on the 12th of October, lecturers, Hungarian and international students can find the ideal opportunity to study abroad.

One of the most successful mobility programs of the European Union (EU), Erasmus, celebrates its 35th anniversary this year. More than 10 million people have already experienced the Erasmus experience worldwide. The #ErasmusDays series of events aim to show the diversity of the program and the opportunities for mobility.

– The main objectives of the new program phase, which started in 2021, are inclusion, digitalization, and “green Erasmus”. In the spirit of inclusion, in addition to the traditional forms of student mobility, part-time training, and professional practice, there are also short, 1–2-week study-trip-type mobility opportunities for PhD-students, or the Blended Intensive Program, in which a short study trip is supplemented with online training that can be completed from home. In addition, students can also apply for an equal-opportunity-grant of 250 euros for their scholarship. The short programs also make the international experience available to students who work alongside their studies or already have families and cannot spend months abroad, – Orsolya Jánosy, head of the International Relations Office, told hirek.unideb.hu.

Institutional Erasmus coordinator Péter Gara emphasized that every year 300 students from the UD travel abroad for part-time training or professional internships, primarily to the countries of the EU. Since 2021, students can also apply to overseas partner universities within the framework of the Erasmus program. This year they will also travel to Japan and South Korea.

– The program is also top-rated among lecturers. They can use the mobility opportunities for lecturers and training grants, primarily to the Erasmus program countries. We won support with 19 partner countries in the Erasmus International Credit Mobility Program, so our lecturers can travel to Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, South Africa, or even Australia – pointed out Péter Gara.

The central element of #ErasmusDays is the Mobility Fair. On the 13th of October at the main building of the UD, according to tradition, students can find out about study abroad opportunities, professional internships, summer camps, and foreign language courses between 9 am and 2 pm. The organizers expect 30 exhibitors this year.

According to the signals received by the International Relations Office, the interest of UD international students in the mobility program is increasing, so on the 14th of October, an English-language Mobility Café will be organized for them in the Sesztina Villa. At the event, international students will receive information about the overlaps and rules of the support systems, for example, the fact that Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship students, unfortunately, cannot get an Erasmus scholarship during their studies in Hungary due to the strict rules of the SH program. Please note that it will be about student mobility for study purposes which is only open to full-time self-paid students. Hence, this event is only open to those students.

Participation in the event is subject to registration. You can register at https://fb.me/e/2WaG2SRb5

At #ErasmusDays, the faculties are also waiting for those interested in diverse programs. The Institute of English and American Studies of the Faculty of Humanities will organize a lecture on Malaysia, Malay culture, and language at 2 pm on the 14th of October with the participation of the Malaysian ambassador and the lecturers of Sunway University in Kuala Lumpur. In Hajdúböszörmény, at the Faculty of Education for Children and Special Educational Needs, the Hungarian students will give a presentation about their experiences abroad on the 13th of October. On the 14th, they will organize an international conference with the participation of foreign instructors who came to UD as part of the program.
