There will be 2 programs in Debrecen this Saturday.

Lantern Festival – Celebrating the Year of the Fire Horse in Debrecen

The Chinese Lantern Festival marks the closing celebration of the Chinese New Year, which in 2026 begins on the 17th of February.

In China, this day is all about celebrating together: lights are lit, the streets come alive, and people gather to welcome the first full moon of the new year.

This year, we welcome the Year of the Fire Horse, a symbol of energy, momentum, and courage, as well as the determination to explore new paths.

In the morning, children are invited to OTT-Home for a festive, New Year-themed Mandarin Matinee Club, where they can explore Chinese culture and the symbols of the holiday playfully and creatively.

From late afternoon, everyone is welcome on Batthyány Street, where a colorful street festival begins:

Food Not Bombs Cooking

The initiative aims to save vegetables and fruits that are no longer intended for sale but are still suitable for human consumption from local markets, which are then cooked, and the hot meals are delivered to those in need in Debrecen.

Anyone interested in selecting, processing, and preparing the ingredients is welcome.

Two teams of coordinators will visit locations in parallel from vendor to vendor to collect the remaining vegetables and fruits. The teams will transport the collected ingredients to the Baross Street base, sort and prepare them, and then finally start cooking.
