The English-language The Lion King musical in Debrecen

The international troupe of the University of Debrecen presents THE LION KING musical at 6 pm on the 24^th and 25^th of April 2023 at the oDEon University Theater.

Like the highly successful Hair, the well-known Broadway musical is also performed in English by the students of the University of Debrecen.

As in Hair, 25 university students from 13 countries will appear in The Lion King. For example, young people from India, Mexico, Russia, Iran, Namibia, Kenya, South Africa, and Brazil will hide in oDEon’s own designed costumes. During the performance, the LED wall will also be used, on which the Hungarian subtitles of the English-language play will be read, and in addition, animations will appear on it that match what is happening on stage, added the director of the university theater.

About the musical:

The Lion King musical tells the story of Simba, the young lion king who is destined to become king. However, Simba’s evil uncle Scar has other plans and wants to seize the throne and kill Simba and his family. Scar succeeds in killing his father, Mufasa, and then encourages Simba to run away and not face the responsibility for his father’s death. However, Simba saves himself from the clutches of Scar, who wants to kill him and continues to live in exile. Simba and his friends Timon and Pumbaa forget about their past and the events. One day, Simba’s girlfriend Nala arrives and tells him that Scar is abusing the animals in the kingdom. On the advice of his good friend Rafiki, Simba returns to the Pride Lands to confront Scar. Simba and his friends return, overthrow Scar, and Simba regains his rightful place on the throne of the Lion King.
