The scholarship offers tuition fee discounts of up to 90% in high-demand fields, including natural sciences, medical and health sciences, IT, engineering, and agriculture. The application started on the 16th of January 2026.
The objective of the scholarship program is to offer opportunities to international students who are not currently enrolled in Hungary. These students can pursue their higher education studies in Hungary, including at the University of Debrecen.
The program’s mission is to increase the number of international students in degree programs related to natural sciences, medical and health sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The aim is to amplify the involvement of international students in professional internship programs, to facilitate their integration into the Hungarian labor market. The program also seeks to enrich the pool of qualified international students in Hungary.
The scholarship program is managed by the Coordinating Center for International Education at the University of Debrecen.
The program provides:
- Tuition fee discount
The tuition fee discount may vary by study program.
For the Medicine and Dentistry programs, the tuition fee discount is capped at a maximum of 30% of the full annual tuition fee.
For all other programs, the tuition fee discount is a maximum 90% of the full annual tuition fee.
The extent of the discount depends on the academic background and the entrance examination performance of the applicant.

Eligibility:
Applicants must be non-Hungarian citizens. Applicants holding citizenship of the following countries are eligible:

Students must possess a passport/national ID upon application.
Only those students who correctly completed their application, submitted all required documents, and transferred the application fee of 150 USD to the University’s bank account will be considered for the scholarship.
During the application process, applicants must meet the entrance examination requirements set by the chosen degree program.
Applicants must be 18 years of age by the 31st of August of the year subject to the application (special exemption may be requested in case of excellent performance on the entrance exam).
Non-eligibility:
Applications will not be considered in the following cases:
- Hungarian citizens (including those with dual citizenship), stateless persons, refugees, protected individuals, asylum-seekers, admitted individuals, migrants, settled persons, and those who do not fall within the scope of Section 39 (1) a) of the Higher Education Act.
- Registered students at the University of Debrecen.
- Applicants who have ever been registered students at the University of Debrecen.
- Applicants who do not fulfill the entry requirements of the chosen program.
- Students already awarded by the Hungarian Governmental or the UD International Scholarship.
Available Study Programs
- Applicants may choose only one study program.
- Only full-time degree studies are available. Exchange programs or partial studies are NOT included in the program.
- Only freshman applications are considered. Transfer applications aiming at a higher year level is NOT eligible.
- PhD programs are NOT included in the program.

Deadline
There is no designated deadline for the scholarship application. Applications can be submitted continuously until the scholarship budget and program seat capacities allow. However, the official application deadlines for all University of Debrecen International Degree Programs apply (15 June 2026).
