The number of non-Hungarian students at the University of Debrecen may reach 7,500 in the 2021/22 academic year. A significant factor in the increase of roughly 10 percent compared to the previous year is the extraordinary popularity of the institution among the applicants for the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship program.
More than 2,200 new foreign students started their studies at the University of Debrecen in September, which means that the institution has more international students than ever before, circa 7,500, thus remaining in the leading position among Hungarian universities.
The Coordinating Center for International Education of the University of Debrecen has registered a total of more than 23,000 applications for more than 70 different English-language programs announced for the 2021/22 academic year. It is an increase of 50 percent compared to last year.
The significant increase was also because a record number of 20,500 applications were received through the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship program. It is almost 40 percent of the national applications, which is an outstanding result because the applicants could choose from 30 tertiary education institutions in Hungary. […] 1074 students won the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship and can start their studies in September 2021 at the University of Debrecen
