For many years, FORUM Debrecen Shopping Center has been supporting the chocolate collection campaign of the Bihari Állami Gondozottak Egyesülete (in English: Bihari Association of State Tendeds, in short: BAGE). Every November, the collection of sweets starts in the city, and then a month later, the children living in state care receive them as part of a celebration. Lajos Buzás, the main organizer, works tirelessly for the children.
At the opening of the press conference, the students of the St Joseph’s Kindergarten, Primary School, Secondary School, and College in Debrecen performed a song by János Bródy. After that, Ajtony Átányi, the center manager of FORUM Debrecen Shopping Center, said that FORUM has been supporting BAGE’s chocolate collection in various ways for almost ten years, and last year was the first when the slide appeared. Now this idea has been thought through, so this year the offered sweets will arrive in Santa’s sleigh. Regarding Lajos Buzás, he noted: not all heroes wear capes.

According to the hero without a cape, with each chocolate, we give children not only sweets, but also attention and love. In addition, he drew the attention of local and neighboring companies, businesses, organizations and schools to collect and slide sweets, because there are a lot of hungry mouths.
Deputy mayor Diána Széles began her speech by thanking the class 4 A for their presentation, and then continued to address her words primarily to them: she told them that Lajos Buzás also grew up in state care and that he became a helper for those with a similar fate because he knows very well how much their lives involve deprivation and resignation. She emphasized how lucky those children are who grow up in a loving home and how difficult it is for those living in state care. After that, Buzás became the topic again: she told those present that a few days ago he was able to receive an award for creating opportunities, from Attila Fülöp, the state secretary responsible for care policy at the Ministry of the Interior. Of course, there was a big applause after that. Her closing thought summed up what had happened so far:
“We send them a message with a chocolate: yes, someone is thinking of you”
Edit Bódi, the recently elected new president of the Debrecen Charitable Board, also spoke, recalling nostalgic memories of the chocolate collector’s early years, when the closing ceremony was still held at Lovarda and they could move far fewer people with the campaign. He noted with pleasure that more and more companies consider it important to help those living in state care, and then she quoted the words of Sándor Demján, who passed away a few years ago: “He who has full pockets should have a warm heart”.

Finally, Zsófia Máthé, the head of sales and marketing of Metál-Sheet Kft. took the floor, who said that, like last year, the main sponsor of the Campus Festival, Metál-Sheet, made the slide, which was made of sandwich panels and brought not only metal, but also chocolates on behalf of the company.

After the speeches, both the students of St. Joseph’s and the speakers walked up to the first floor, from where they slid down the sweets, which landed directly in Santa’s sleigh, and they will be guarded by conscientious elves until the 15th of December 2024. The gala associated with the handover will be held on the 17th of December 2024 at the Meteor Christian Center in Debrecen.
