There will be four English-language programs in Debrecen this week.
English guided tour with Török Krisztián Gábor at the exhibition titled The Image of Colour, the Mystery of Image at 5 pm on the 23rd of April in MODEM.
About the exhibition:
The Image of Colour, the Mystery of Image, presents a comprehensive selection of monochrome paintings from the Antal-Lusztig Collection. This collection is recognized as one of the most significant private collections in Hungary, and a major group of works from it have been deposited in the museums of Debrecen. Focusing on the tradition of exhibiting works from the Antal-Lusztig Collection, this selection comprises several hundred national and international works. Dr. Péter Antal, the owner, began his acquisition of monochrome paintings in the mid-2000s, and the collection of more than 500 works constitutes a separate segment of his collection.
The current exhibition, featuring selected works from the monochrome segment of the Antal-Lusztig Collection, is organized into 7+1 separate units. It aims to guide the visitor along a path (both physical and imaginary) that begins with an exploration of the material components of painting. The journey then progresses through the research of monochrome painters, delving into the foundational concepts of painting, concepts such as gesture, the space of the image, the boundaries of the image, and the layers of the image. The works of national and international artists, organized into sections, serve to refine general ideas about these fundamental concepts. Moreover, the exhibition introduces visitors to the mystery of painting, which, following the liberation of the material of paint, has given rise to a unique type of portraiture that depicts the image of color.
With their participation, visitors accept that audio and video recordings will be made during given events, which could be used for promotional purposes on MODEM’s social platforms.

Short description:
The story of an exceptional painter talent, the Belgian-Hungarian Kim Corbisier, who left a brilliantly powerful oeuvre behind after her tragically short and intense life. And a camera at her filmmaker friend. The mesmerizing and often shocking footages of the camera bear witness to her struggles with methadone addiction and, above all, her identity crisis caused by a series of unfortunate and criminal accidents in her family. After the unfinished attempts, with this film, the filmmaker realizes a project they had planned together.
After the film, there will be a discussion about the film and the topics addressed by it. The event itself is free of charge.
Documentary movie night at 7 pm on the 26th of April in Baross16.
Join the Association of Alternative Communities for a cozy educational evening in a safe space with warm cookies, popcorn, and a discussion afterward.
The movie is Overcoming the darkness, a documentary about the first few months of the war in Ukraine following the Russian invasion on the 24th of February 2022.
The movie is in the original language (Ukrainian), Russian, and English with English subtitles. The organizers have bean bags, chairs, a sofa for you to get comfortable, and homemade cookies and popcorn for everyone. You can bring your own drinks/snacks with you. There is also a bar operating next door if you want to buy drinks. After watching, participants will share their thoughts and reflect on the movie together. The topic is heavy, but it is important to educate ourselves and speak about it. So, do it together in a safe space!
The event is free of charge; however, registration is required. Association of Alternative Communities is a non-profit organization, but they accept donations supporting their work in cash. The organizers need to know the number of participants to have enough snacks for the event. Registration form.
