Mid-Autumn Festival in Debrecen!

Light, culture, and shared experiences will fill Batthyány Street on the 26^th of September.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important traditional festivals in Chinese culture. It is celebrated on the 15^th day of the 8^th month of the lunar calendar, when the full moon is at its roundest and brightest.

Symbols of the festival

• The full Moon – symbolizes wholeness, harmony, and family togetherness.
• Mooncakes – their round shape represents wholeness and reunion. They are an essential festival treat.
• Lanterns – bring light, hope and a festive atmosphere.
• The Jade Rabbit – in Chinese mythology, the Jade Rabbit lives on the Moon and appears in stories connected to Chang’e and the elixir of immortality.

Traditionally, on this evening, people also think of those who cannot be with them. After all, wherever we are in the world, we all see the same moon.

Program:

10 am -12 pm

• Mandarin Matinee Club for children at OTT-Home (cultural and craft activities related to the festival)
• Parents are invited to enjoy a Chinese tea ceremony.

6 pm-8:30 pm Street Festival on Batthyány Street

• Dancing Fairies
• Traditional Chinese Costume (Hanfu) Show
• Music and Dance Cultural Performance
• Mooncake Tasting
• DJ show

During the street festival, there will also be activities inside the OTT-Home building:

• A craft workshop, where participants can make a lotus lantern.
• The opportunity to try on traditional Chinese clothing in the photo corner.

The event is free to attend.

Everyone is invited to discover the traditions of the Mid-Autumn Festival, experience the atmosphere of Chinese culture, or simply celebrate under the light of the full moon.
