The 97th Academy Awards was held on the early morning of 3/3 (1 A.M., Hungary time) at the Dolby Theater, Los Angeles, USA, hosted by veteran comedian and MC Conan O’Brien.
Anora was officially awarded Best Picture of the year award at the 2025 Oscars, surpassing a series of formidable candidates such as The Brutalist, Emilia Perez, Wicked and Conclave. This indie film picked up 5 of 6 Oscars for which it was nominated.
Director Sean Baker alone won 4 Academy Awards, including Best Editing, Best Original Screenplay, Best Director and Best Picture.
The 5th Oscars of Anora came from Mikey Madison, who had a convincing victory over Demi Moore for portraying her role as a sex worker in Sean Baker’s picture.
Following up, The Brutalist won 3 Oscars after being nominated in 10 categories, including Best Actor for Adrien Brody. The film is about a Hungarian-Jewish architect who fled to America during the Holocaust.
Adrien Brody’s win also ended Timothee Chalamet’s hopes of making history. The American-French actor had a chance to become the youngest actor in history to win an Oscar for Best Actor after portraying a young Bob Dylan in the biopic A Complete Unknown.

In addition, the remaining films with 2 awards were Dune: Part Two, Wicked and Emilia Perez. Conclave, The Substance, I’m Still Here and Flow also took home 1 Oscars. Flow made history as the first animated film to be nominated for Best International Film and the first Latvian film to win an Oscar.
A Complete Unknown was nominated for 8 Oscars but came away empty-handed at this year’s Oscars. The same is the case of Nosferatu with 4 nominations.
This year’s Oscars did not have the Best Original Song performances like every year, instead there was a tribute performance to the James Bond series with the participation of Lisa, Margaret Qualley, Doja Cat and Raye.
