The regular press conference of the event was held on the 6th of July, 2022. Executive Director Péter Miklósvölgyi, Member of Parliament Lajos Kósa, Mayor László Papp, Professor Dr. Zoltán Bács, the Chancellor of the University of Debrecen, Program Director András Süli, Sándor Rózsa, the Deputy Managing Director of OTP Bank in the Northeast Hungary Region and Zsófia Máthé, the marketing manager of Metál-Sheet Kft spoke at the Water Tower Adventure Center, which served as the venue.
Péter Miklósvölgyi said that more tickets were sold for one of the country’s and Eastern Hungary’s hugest music events until the 1st of July than in 2019 (that was the last year when the festival could be organized ordinarily), so there is a high chance that the number of visitors will exceed 100,000 this year. In response to a journalist’s question, he said that last year – when they could not invite international performers due to the epidemic situation – the Campus Festival had 87,000 visitors. They will surely surpass that this year. He also emphasized that Thursday could be sold out, thanks to one of the most famous performers in the history of the festival so far, the Dutch star DJ Tiësto.

Lajos Kósa emphasized that the Campus Festival is also ahead of other major Hungarian events in that it is not exposed to environmental effects due to the characteristics of the location because the built environment is world-class.
Professor Dr. Zoltán Bács, representing the university, emphasized the presence of the University of Debrecen: Of course, there will also be Egyetem Tér this year, which will have a slightly different name this year: Erasmus35 Színpad – Egyetem Tér. The telling name refers to the fact that the popular Erasmus program is 35 years old this year. So, the focus will be on international mobility this year. The Sports Science Coordination Institute and the UD Mental Health Center will also be present. This year, a new university unit will also make its debut at the festival: The Hospital Hygiene Department of the UD Clinical Center will also be there. Almost 400 university citizens will take part in the implementation of university programs.
Mayor László Papp highlighted the extraordinary nature of the collaboration between the city, the Debrecen Campus Nonprofit Közhasznú Kft, and the University of Debrecen, that there is another event of this size in the country, where three organizations of this size jointly create an event of this quality. He added that the Campus Festival became a dominant factor in the market. It has already become one of the considerable thanks to continuous development.
Program director András Süli revealed that this year, there are more than 200 musical programs and about the same number of other attractions (street theater parades, contemporary dance performances, Játszóház Project, and Campus Kid, to name a few). It is a newness that this year, for the first time, the Nagyerdei Open Air Theater will also be a site where the Csokonai National Theater prepares performances every evening, which will be free with a daily ticket or a pass. There will also be a songwriting camp for the first time, which will be led by recent Artisjus award winner Mátyás Szepesi (Konyha). There will be a total of 19 locations, which is possibly the second highest in the country after the Sziget Festival. Also, this year, the high path of the Nagyerdei Stadion will make its debut as a place where the VIP Zone will move, thanks to BMW. It will also be possible to view the concerts on the Metál-Sheet Main Stage from there. Soproni beer is also building a special location upstairs: moreover, beer in the Soproni MegaPub will be cheaper than in the restaurants below.
Péter Miklósvölgyi revealed the prices too: while a glass of beer in the ground area of the festival will cost 750 Forint, it will be only 590 Forint in the upper venue, and every day there will be a happy hour when you only have to pay 490 Forint for a cold draught beer.
As for the performers, in addition to Tiësto and almost the entire Hungarian line-up, the Norwegian Aurora, the Swedish Zara Larsson, the British veteran The Toy Dolls, the British Chase & Status and Charlotte OC, as well as the German Christian Löffler will also perform at the Great Forest.
CAMPUS FESTIVAL 2022 WILL BE A FESTIVAL OF JUBILEES
This year, Parno Grasz will come to Debrecen with a special show who will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their existence and the 20th anniversary of their debut album (Rávágok a zongorára). Blahalouisiana also has a birthday: the formation started 10 years ago, and there will already be 20 candles on the cake of the Supernem led by Papp Szabolcs. The cult album of Tankcsapda (A legjobb méreg) was released 30 years ago this year.
Similar things can be highlighted in the case of foreign performers too: DJ Magazine chose Tiësto as the world’s best disc jockey 20 years ago, a title he has won several times since then. The aforementioned The Toy Dolls will probably be the oldest band at the festival: their breakthrough cover of Nellie the Elephant was released 40 years ago. The eccentric prodigy of contemporary electronic music, Christian Löffler’s solo album is also 10 years old this year.
Although it is not a special anniversary event, it is a big deal that Aurora, a dedicated nature lover, and environmentalist, is planning to adopt a century-old oak tree from the Great Forest.
