Mozart’s masterpiece shows itself from a new aspect in the extraordinary atmosphere of the Nagyerdei Open Air Theater. The opening performance of the Debrecen Festive Games in the language of opera is intended for all ages, and its message is valid for all life situations. The production is performed in Hungarian with English subtitles.
“Fairy tales, including operas based on tales, are always full of symbolic images of the subconscious, which are directly connected to the human psyche. These images are universal motifs of the collective subconscious and allow free association, requiring interpretation.
The specificity of The Magic Flute is that it transforms the plot of a fairy tale into an opera about initiation. I want the opera we created to lift young and old out of the ordinary, and we would participate in an uncommon initiation where the soul is lifted.” – said Péter Gemza, the director.
