The rehearsals of The Wizard of Oz are started in the Csokonai Theater. The theater will present the play on the 28th of August at the Nagyerdei Open Air Theatre.
The play can be seen on the 28th of August at the Nagyerdei Open Air Theatre with English subtitles for the international audience.
Réka Zsitva, who plays Dorothy, is known for the musical Bonnie & Clyde three years ago. The actress said that she was forward to working with director Ilya Bocharnikov and was pleased to sing the most beautiful songs of musical literature in Debrecen.
The Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman and the Cowardly Lion, Dorothy’s loyal companions, are played by Tamás Herczeg, Richárd Kránicz, and István Papp.

Tamás Herczeg said that everyone is connected to this timeless story in one way or another because it evokes childhood memories in adults, and children can meet an already familiar, magical world. “During rehearsals, I noticed that Oz is a topos, from which many stories, fairy tales, and figures are built. Just think about the Marvel phenomenon: Professor Marvel is mentioned here for the first time, but familiar elements also come back from the figure of the Tin Woodman”.
Rihárd Kránicz, who plays Tin Woodman, watched the legendary film starring Judy Garland, which was his favorite in his childhood. “Ilya Bocharnikov, of course, directs this story differently, my Tin Woodman will be significantly different from what we saw in the film, but that’s what exactly will be interesting. Ilya doesn’t update so much but uses modern humor to create a more steampunk world.”
István Papp, who plays the Cowardly Lion, invites both adults and children to the performance. Not only is the production interwoven with humor for different ages, but also “Oz will be a real family story, a well-composed play with excellent music and well-sung songs”.
