The results of the European Universities Games 2024 (first half)

The short summary of the European Universities Games 2024 from the 10^th to the 16^th of July. In Miskolc, the chess, judo, and kickboxing competitions have concluded. The 3×3 basketball tournament has concluded in Debrecen. The gold medals went to Riga Stradins University for the women’s competition and Polytechnic University of Bucharest for the men’s competition. Volleyball has concluded in Miskolc, and medals have been awarded in women’s futsal in Debrecen. In volleyball, the Czech Brno University of Technology won first place in the men’s competition, while the Italian University of Bologna claimed the top spot in the women’s category. In women’s futsal, the French Nantes University proved to be the best team.

The women’s futsal tournament concluded. The final provided the most excitement. The Ukrainian Dragomenov University was leading 2-0 and seemed close to victory, but the French Nantes University staged a remarkable comeback to equalize. The real drama came in the last minute of overtime, when Nantes’ captain, Faustine Pellegry, scored the winning goal. The match was memorable not only for the on-field action but also for the incredible atmosphere, with the stands at the Oláh Gábor Street Sports Hall filled with enthusiastic fans.

Volleyball has also concluded in Miskolc. The finals were played at the Generali Arena. In the men’s final, the German University of Rostock triumphed over the Czech Brno University of Technology. The women’s final was a fantastic display, with the Italian University of Bologna winning against the Croatian University of Zagreb.

On Monday, in Debrecen the 3×3 basketball tournament concluded. Riga Stradins University from Latvia won the women’s title, while Polytechnic University of Bucharest from Romania took the men’s title. The bronze medals went to Széchenyi University from Győr, who defeated the defending EUC 2023 champions, Vasyl Stefanyk University from Ukraine, in overtime. For the men, Vytautas Magnus University from Lithuania, the tournament favorite, secured the bronze. The University of Ljubljana from Slovenia can be proud, as they produced the winners of the three-point shooting contest for both men and women, and the dunk contest champion hailed from Ukraine.

In chess, competitors in both open and women’s categories fought for four days. Hungarians won 3 medals, Romania, Turkey, and Azerbaijan each won 2 medals, and Lithuania, Armenia, and Austria secured 1 medal each.

In judo, Georgia won four gold medals, and Hungary won three. Switzerland, Romania, the Netherlands, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Italy, and Croatia each earned one gold medal.

The three-day kickboxing competition also concluded, with Croatia and Hungary each taking home 7 gold medals, Turkey winning six, Poland and Portugal winning 2 each, and Switzerland, Austria, and the United Kingdom each securing one gold medal.
