Among more than 5500 institutions examined by Quacquarelli Symonds, the University of Debrecen (UD) was ranked 574th, and by Round University Rankings, the UD was ranked 327th.

1,500 out of 5,663 higher education institutions in 106 countries were included in the QS World University Rankings 2025 list. The UD took 574th place, making it in the top 3 among Hungarian higher education institutions. As in previous years, UD was the best in the proportion of international students this year, and in this field, it ranks 209th in the international comparison. The institution, 464th on the list, significantly improved its position in the education quality indicator. This year, the university advanced to the 505th position in academic evaluation.

In connection with the result, rector Zoltán Szilvássy recalled that seven years ago, a working group was created at the institution to promote the international scientific visibility of the university.

The result of a conscious process and years of serious work is today’s highly visible position at the international level, which we expect to improve further. Traditionally, our publication activity is the strongest in the fields of medicine and health sciences, but at the same time, there is visible progress in education and research in agricultural and economic sciences, as well as technical and natural sciences. The scientific objectives of the institution are served by the strengthening of the research infrastructure with the recently handed-over Manufacturing-Research-Teaching Center and the Pilot Laboratory

said rector Zoltán Szilvássy.

In the recently published QS ranking, UD is the best Hungarian university in the proportion of international students and involvement in international research networks.

We are proud of our international students, and we are very happy that the University of Debrecen is the best institution in Hungary for international research

Attila Jenei, director of the Coordinating Center for International Education of the University of Debrecen, told hirek.unideb.hu.

The University of Debrecen’s overseas partner, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States, was at the top of the ranking again this year, which has retained its first place for the 13th year in a row. Imperial College London improved four places to 2nd, while Oxford University and Harvard University are 3rd and 4th respectively.
