Summary of the RUR, QS, THE, Shanghai Ranking, and U.S. News & World Report lists during the last semester.
Round University Ranking
The University of Debrecen is now ranked 377th in the global list published by the Moscow-based independent rankings agency Round University Ranking (RUR), which comes as a significant step forward as compared to the data of previous years.
UD was first evaluated by RUR in 2013 when it was ranked 590th, a position in the category it continued to retain until 2018 (586th). In 2019 then, it moved forward to 539th, while in 2020, it was positioned 547th.
Improving more than 130 places (as the best Hungarian higher education institution) the University of Debrecen became the 141st in the latest thematic natural science ranking of the Round University Ranking (RUR).
In the latest natural science ranking of the Moscow-based independent organization, the University of Debrecen ranked 141st with 72,184 points (it was the 277th last year). With this result, UD became the first Hungarian higher education institution.
UD has also improved in RUR’s technical science rankings. In the RUR Technical Sciences thematic list, it moved from 598th to 577th place, making the University of Debrecen the 3rd among Hungarian institutions.
Quacquarelli Symonds
The University of Debrecen is among the best 591-600 on the list of the prestigious English ranking maker Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2022, making UD the top 46% of the ranked institutions. It is still the second among Hungarian universities.
As in previous years, the institution was the best in the proportion of foreign students – it has been ranked 157th globally.
The University of Debrecen continues to be among the top 450 universities according to the thematic list ranking life sciences and general medicine issued by the London-based organization QS.
The University of Debrecen was ranked among the best 401-450 educational institutions in the world, according to the thematic ranking of life sciences and medicine in the 2021 QS World University Rankings by Subject. UD continues to be the best Hungarian institution in the field of agricultural sciences, where it was ranked among the top 201-250, while in medicine, it got into the top 351-400, and in biology, it made the top 451-500.
Times Higher Education
The UD has been ranked 195th on the list of institutions of higher education in emerging economies published by Times Higher Education (THE). Ours is one of ten universities out of the 600 institutions judged that could move forward at least two categories during the past year.
The most significant improvement by UD was achieved in the field of Teaching, where it scored 34.4 points (it was only 19.9 last year), while in the area of International outlook, it advanced to 60.2 from the previous 55.7 points.
The University of Debrecen is currently placed among the top 100 in the Good Health and Wellbeing as well as in the Life Below Water whereas, as a Hungarian university, it is ranked 101-200 in the Quality Education category on the most recent list of Impact Ranking, THE.
Impact Ranking, the most recent list of THE, the British ranking system, assesses the social and economic involvement and impacts of universities against the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. The University of Debrecen was assessed in 4 of the 17 categories and was ranked among the best in all of them.
In the Good Health and Wellbeing category, UD was ranked 87th of the 871 assessed universities, while in the Life Below Water category, it ranked 100th among 379 universities.
The University of Debrecen has been able to retain its position in the top 101-200 group as the best Hungarian university in the Quality Education category.
In the Partnership for Goals category, the University of Debrecen has taken the position 201-300 among a total of 1154 universities.
Shanghai Ranking
This year, for the first time, the institution was also ranked in the Shanghai Ranking on the physics and ecology lists. The University of Debrecen made its debut in the Shanghai Rankings in the top 301-400 in physics and the top 401-500 in ecology.
U.S. News & World Report
UD has been ranked 672nd on the global ranking list of the U.S. News & World Report Best Global Universities, 285th in Europe, and 2nd in Hungary. In terms of disciplines, the best results were achieved in physics (375), biology and chemistry (446), as well as botany and zoology (476).
