Real Madrid won 2-1 against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League, round of 16, Brahim Diaz is the hero of Los Blancos with a decisive goal.
Last night, the Champions League round of 16 fixture kicked off. All spotlight is on the Madrid derby between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid at Bernabeu stadium.
This derby also marked the 500th match of Real Madrid in Champions League, making it the team with the most games in this Europe’s prestigious league.
In the 4th minute, Rodrygo scored for the home team after a long pass from teammate Valvedre. The Brazilian player handled the ball skillfully before making a tricky curl to defeat Oblak.

After conceding the goal, Atletico pressed forward to find an equalizer. In the 32nd minute, Alvarez made a beautiful curling shot from outside the penalty area, sending the ball into the far corner, and defeated Courtois. The result was 1-1 at half-time.
In the second half, Real Madrid put strong pressure on Atletico Madrid. In the 55th minute, Brahim Diaz made a technical move, eliminating Gimenez before perfectly curling the ball into the far corner, restoring the home lead for Los Blancos. 2-1 was also the final result of the Madrileño derby.

In another notable match, Arsenal were the most impressive winners in last night’s fixture. “The Gunners” was all but through to the quarter-finals after thrashing PSV 7-1 in the Netherlands.
Arsenal easily took a 3-0 lead after just over 30 minutes. Noa Lang’s goal could not help PSV regain control of the game. The home team completely collapsed in the second half and conceded 4 more goals.
With 7 goals, Arsenal also set a record by becoming the first team to score 7 away goals in a knockout match in Champions League, since the tournament changed their name in 1992.

More importantly, the team of Mikel Arteta inflicted PSV’s heaviest home defeat in the club’s history. The Dutch giant have never lost a home game by 6 goals in their nearly 113-year history.
In the remaining 2 matches, Aston Villa had a convincing 3-1 away victory over Club Brugge, while Dortmund had a disappointing 1-1 draw at their home stadium against Lille.
