There is a service at the University of Debrecen called Mentalconsult. It is free and anonymous support in relationship problems, adaptation difficulties, and conflicts. In the current situation, it is only available in the form of e-mail consultation. It can be helpful not only at times of distance learning. More in the article.
Zsuzsanna Pintér-Eszenyei, the coordinator of the Mental Health Center, is a clinical psychologist. During her bachelor years, she was already a peer helper at the University of Debrecen. She has graduated from the University of Debrecen, Department of Behavioral Sciences in clinical and mental hygiene psychology. She worked as a psychologist at Kenézy Gyula Teaching Hospital. In the spring of 2020, the head of the Mental Health Center asked her to coordinate the service of mental health counseling for international students at the University of Debrecen.
She considers that it is significant to support those who have personal difficulties and help them utilize their resources and opportunities. For achieving this goal, she provides new perspectives and a safe space by which it becomes possible.
Service description. As a student of the University of Debrecen, you have the possibility to receive mental health support that is provided by mental health professionals at the University’s Mental Health Centre.
The service includes 1+4 sessions. The very first, introductory meeting is for the definition of the problem of why you are searching for help. After that, 4 sessions are dedicated to deal with the defined problem itself. Mentalconsult can give you support in the following topics: family and relationship problems, conflicts, and adaptation difficulties in new circumstances.
According to the profession’s ethical standard, any information shared by both participants is confidential, which means that no information will be released without your consent. There are situations in which confidentiality cannot be held in favor of your and/or other people’s safety. These include:
- Clear evidence of the imminent danger of harm to self and/or others. In this case, they are obliged to inform the authorities responsible for ensuring safety (for example, ambulance).
- Your counselor may consult with another professional from the team for professional purposes and regarding the student, anonymously.
The service is financed by the University, which means it is free of charge for students.
