The European Universities Games will start on the 17th of July 2022, in Lodz in Poland. The University of Debrecen is represented in four sports by about 40 sportspersons.
The European University Sports Association has given Lodz, Poland, the right to host the 6th European Universities Games in 2022. The competing students do not participate as a national team but in the colors of their higher education institutions in this competition.
The University of Debrecen has entered about 40 sportspersons in four sports. UD students in Lodz can compare their knowledge, skills, and strength in men’s futsal and men’s water polo, men’s and women’s tennis, and men’s and women’s judo.
The University of Debrecen, together with the University of Miskolc, the municipalities of the two cities, and the Hungarian University Sports Federation, with the support of the Hungarian government, successfully applied for the organization of the next European Universities Games in 2024.
Zoltán Bács, Chancellor of the University of Debrecen, said that the size of the event: 6,000 athletes, 1,000 volunteers, and 300 additional participants would give an enormous challenge to the two cities and the two Hungarian universities.

We pay special attention to the summer competition in Poland, as we will be the next hosts together with the University of Miskolc. We try to train our athletes as best we can. We focus mainly on their success, but it will also be very significant to gain experience in organizing

The largest and most significant higher education sporting event in Europe, the biennial Universities Games, was held for the first time in 2012.

- 2016: Zagreb and Rijeka (Croatia)
- 2018: Coimbra (Portugal)
- 2021: Belgrade (Serbia)
- 2022: Lodz (Poland)
- 2024: Debrecen and Miskolc (Hungary)
This will be the largest university sports event in Hungary.
