The stands, the track, and the main building of the DEAC will also be renovated, and the athletics club of the university will get a new scoreboard. With the renovation of the Dóczy József Street sports complex of the University of Debrecen, education and competitive sports will also receive new sites and better conditions.
The stands were fitted with brand-new black-and-white plastic chairs that harmonize with the colors of the jerseys of the university football team. For the safety of the fans, galvanized steel railings were built in front of the stands.
The DEAC field will be suitable for all second-class football matches. Fans visiting football matches will cheer more comfortably for the university team at the stands, which will receive a total of 1,600-1,700 spectators on both sides. As part of the investment, the sports complex will receive a 24 m2, rotatable new scoreboard in the form of an interactive LED projection wall, which will play a role not only in matches but also in education and entertainment.
Rainy days will not stop the cheer either. In early December, the contractor began the construction of a steel-structured roof over the stands. During the development, a covered guest sector will also be established. The curved roof structure will follow the design of the stand below.
A football-specific fitness park with special locally cast rubber coating (EPDM) will also be built in the area behind the goal of the grass soccer field.
Besides the updating of the stands and the area around the track, the main building of the sports complex will also be expanded so that the facility can be used for a larger headcount of educational activities, and new stands will be set up. Above the classrooms, offices, changing rooms, and storage rooms have also been designed for the new parts of the building with more than 1,100 m2 of useful space.
Zoltán Bács, Chancellor of the University of Debrecen, emphasized that the next phase of the development on the DEAC track will be the complex on Dóczy József Street, which will be and unique inside and out.
– The historical past of DEAC, the cutting-edge, and other successes of the departments also justify the developments. Not to mention for the university, sports and sports science are areas of strategic importance, which also makes the institution unique in the national tertiary education market. The facilities of DEAC have to be updated for some time, and the development of the football ground was also explicitly justified by the NBII performance of our football team. The university club is on a par with this investment, while educational opportunities are being expanded with another segment – the chancellor said.
The transformations will be implemented from the 235 million Forints infrastructure support coordinated by the EMMI State Secretariat for Sport at the Dóczy Street sports complex. The monumental stands and its functional expansion can be renewed within the framework of the D2030 development strategy.
DEAC is a sports club of the University of Debrecen founded in 1919. Its center is the sports complex at 9 Dóczy József Street, built in 1926, which is now being renovated.
