On the 1st of December at 7:30 pm, Gergely Bogányi, a world-famous Hungarian pianist, gives a solo concert first time online. The concert is broadcasted live from the Kölcsey Center of Debrecen on online.jegy.hu website. The Kossuth Prized pianist plays the compositions of Franz Liszt, Frédéric Chopin, and Claude Debussy. This concert is the third part of the Kodály Filharmonia Debrecen Live series.

Judit Erzsébet Kiss interviewed him. About the new situation, Gergely Bogányi said “My original attitude to the situation will not change, I will go out as if the audience were sitting there in the auditorium of the Kölcsey Center in Debrecen.” He thinks that the online concert can substitute the real one this time and happy to play. This is a new experience for the audience, and the sounding is also different in some measure because the microphone is so close to the musical instruments that the listeners hear them better than the player ever. However, because of the lack of acoustics of the place, it is a little bit more unnatural. These days he composes more than executes pieces of music. But he is waiting for this solo night.
Gergely Bogányi was born in 1974 in Vác. He started his piano studies at the age of 4. Later he was a student of the Franz Liszt College of Music in Budapest, Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, and at last the Indiana University in Bloomington. He won the Liszt Ferenc International Piano Competition in Budapest in 1996, in the same year he became the honorary citizen of his hometown. In 2002, he performed Liszt’s Twelve Transcendent Etudes and all of Chopin’s solo piano works in concert series in Hungary and in Finland, winning the Gramophone Award for Best Concert Series of the Year. In the same year, the president of Finland awarded him the Cross of Merit of the White Rose of Finland. Two years later he got the Kossuth Prize, which is the most prestigious cultural award in Hungary. In 2008, he earned the Junior Prima Prize and three years later the Prima Prize as well.

The Kodály Filharmonia Debrecen modified its program, and they switched to online concerting for the coming month again. Their first online live concert was on the 17th of November with mask-wearing musicians without an audience on the spot. The Kodály Philharmonic Debrecen is the official orchestra of the town and has been bearing its name since the autumn of 2011. From 1991 to 2011, they had been working as Debrecen Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Kölcsey Center is the biggest conference center in East-Hungary with 13 thousand square meters of place. From November, it moved into the online space. Some program of the Autumn Festival of Debrecen was postponed but the others are broadcasted online, like concerts, plays and storytelling night. So, this will be the fourth online event of this prestigious building.
It is an honor that this great artist gives a concert in Debrecen.
