The 2021 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA) will be held at the László Papp Budapest Sports Arena in Budapest on the 14th of November. It marks the first time that Hungary will host the awards show. There will be a concert in Debrecen too.
The 2020 MTV EMA was planned to be held in Budapest, but due to the Covid19 pandemic and the restrictions, the show was broadcast virtually from a studio in London. During the show, the Hungarian model Barbara Palvin appeared several times from different locations of Hungary, and David Guetta played his music on a stage set up in the pool of the Széchenyi Spa. At the end of the ceremony, it was announced that it will be held in Budapest in 2021.
It became official on the 9th of October that the exact location will be the László Papp Budapest Sports Arena which has 20,022 seats.
The event will be broadcast on MTV channels in almost 180 countries from the capital city of Hungary. The host of the event will be Saweetie. Performers include Ed Sheeran, Maluma, Maneskin, Kim Petras. Yungblud and Imagine Dragons will also be at the gala. Griff and Girl in Red will perform as well. OneRepublic will give a concert at Heroes’ Square on the 13th of November.
Justin Bieber leads the nominations this year with eight, making him the most nominated male artist. Doja Cat and Lil Nas X are tied with six nominations, with Doja being the most nominated female act. BTS is the most nominated male group and K-pop act, while Little Mix received the most nominations for a female group this year. The category Best K-pop is introduced this year.
As the host of the 2021 MTV EMA, Hungary awaits music lovers with plenty of exciting events.
You can take off the hustle and bustle of the week with a Follow the Flow concert at the University Square (Egyetem tér) in Debrecen at 7 pm on the 13th of November.
The event is free but can only be visited with a valid vaccination certificate.
