The International Student Union (henceforth: ISU) donated 1.100.000 forints to the Foundation for Children with Leukemia.
It is known that the ISU has a tradition of donating part of the International Food Day proceeds to charity foundations.
In 2020, unfortunately, due to COVID-related restrictions, they were not able to execute the Food Day 2020 edition. Nonetheless, they proceeded, and they delivered the traditional donation to the Foundation for Children suffering from Leukemia. The donated amount was 1.100.000 forints.
ISU believes that giving back to the society they live in not only strengthens their relations to the local communities but also allows foreign students to show that they are an active part in the improvement of the community.
International Food Day is a gastronomy festival of international students at the University of Debrecen more than 10 years. At the full-day program, approximately a hundred students from 15 countries prepare their national dishes.
Foundation for the Children with Leukemia is the indirect supporter of Department Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, Institute of Pediatrics, University of Debrecen, Clinical Center.
Their doctors heal children with tumor from the establishment of the Department of Pediatrics of the University of Debrecen. In this regional center they treat mostly the little patients from Hajdú-Bihar, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County.
ISU is the part of the Student Government incorporating international students studying in Debrecen.
