New equipment, digitalization, student-friendly investments, curriculum development – these elements are included in the project, which is implemented by the University and National Library of the University of Debrecen using a 305.5-million-forint tender source.
The development program worth hundreds of millions of forints takes place in the University and National Library of the University of Debrecen (henceforth: DEENK), which raises the standard of higher education and promotes more efficient studies for students. Some of the plans have already been implemented, and the development continues.
– The DEENK with all the elements of the tender, we are implementing developments that will allow us to create the reader- and customer-centric library of tomorrow, – Gyöngyi Karácsony told hirek.unideb.hu. The Director-General of the DEENK emphasized that students were in focus throughout the planning and implementation. Particularly, they try to prevent dropouts by developing competencies related to their education and making the material and environmental conditions more comfortable for them.
One of the significant elements of student services is the reservation system of the prep rooms operating in the Life Sciences Library (https://lib.unideb.hu/hu/tanuloszoba-foglalasa), which in addition to using the most modern tools, provides the possibility of individual or group preparation.
The formation of the “Kreatív Sziget” in the Main Building has started, which was designed with the involvement of a student workgroup. Students can try out and apply new techniques during their studies using a recently purchased 3D printer here.
English language training:
– Of course, to raise the standard of our services, the foreign language training of our employees is essential, because the knowledge of the English language is necessary in the communication with foreign students studying here or coming with Erasmus. – Gyöngyi Karácsony described the program.
There will be a brand-new laptop rental service, which is expected to start next school year. It will help disadvantaged university citizens to study and work.
There is also a continuous preparation of practical and theoretical knowledge related to the preparation of presentations and dissertation writing. The library staff is continuously uploading these to the DEENK e-learning interfaces.
The digitalization of the DEENK’s stock has received new momentum. Documents that are rare and have few copies or can only be read on-site will be available on the library’s online interfaces, regardless of opening hours. A constantly growing digital gallery has also been created, which can be browsed at https://galeria.lib.unideb.hu/regi-konyvek/item.
Soon, it will also be possible to organize events. With this DEENK can once again provide the opportunity to have fun in the renewed spaces.
