Local NGO „Kék Erdő Alapítvány” and American Corner Debrecen (ACD) are organizing a pop-up study group for Ukrainian refugee children aged 6 to 16 in the American Corner at Bem Square on the 26th of May.
For volunteers
They are looking for volunteers (as translators, facilitators, teachers, helpers, etc.) for individual occasions or regularly (Thursday early afternoons).
On the 24th of May, the first session (held in the framework of ACD’s English conversation club) will serve as a brief orientation and illustration of some of the methodology to be used at the study group sessions starting two days later.
Can’t make it to the orientation session? No worries! Feel free to come by to any study group session only to observe or help in any way!
If you are interested, please register at the link below; if you need more information, write an e-mail to debrecenac@gmail.com.

The language of the communication is going to be English (with Ukrainian and Hungarian support and interpretation).
The first session is about:

- planning how to learn together
- what timing is suitable for all of us
- see if our volunteers can commit themselves to the program
What you need to do:
- think through what your expectations are
- have a list of topics you really must learn and cannot learn them online
- you do not need to bring anything at this point
- Please register here: https://forms.gle/nFB8zhNZya4z1kPx9
What awaits you?
- diversity which is a great value and resource
- social inclusion which is essential
- equity for all
- engagement which is key to motivation
- free learning
- learning through experiment and play
- non-violent communication
- acceptance
We cannot teach anything unless we are open to learn.
The focus is on community building, social interactions, diversity, inclusion while following up with primary school lectures in Maths, Nature related studies (for example, Body science or Environmental studies), History and Arts.
Intercultural communication will emerge because of the diverse group of families.
